Selfroster is a function of HosPortal that allows users to chose their own shifts, with or without a quota.
If your site allows SELFROSTERING, you will see "selfroster" in the navigator bar of HosPortal.
The selfroster system works by having SELFROSTER PERIODS. This is a range of dates over which useres will chose shifts. For example, it might cover the month of May, or a year.
The selfroster "period" is first set up by the hospital administrators. This period can be any length of time, and may nor may not have a "quota" of shifts for each individual over that time period.
The period over which people pick their shifts is called a "window". Typically this might be 2 weeks long. When the selfroster window is open, you chose shifts, and these will be added to your quota. Whilst the period is open you can also release any of these shifts back to the pool. Keep in mind that if you release a shift back to the pool of available shifts it could be taken by another user immediately.
Once the selfroster window closes, you can no longer take new shifts or release shifts. However, you can place your shifts on market for users to take or swap with you. Any shifts that were not taken by other users during the time that the selfroster period was open may also now be on the market for you to take.
Any selfroster periods that are currently open, or will open soon, will appear on your dashboard on your home screen. Here's what a selfroster period looks like on your home/dashboard.
